My dad cut this opal, and drilled it at the top. We added the sterling silver pinch bail with that nice leafy design. It is on a sterling silver chain, which is stamped on the clasp.
The opal is Australian.
Boulder opals are one of my favorites. They have those lovely veins of colorful opal running through a matrix stone. The matrix stone is very hard, not fragile like an opal. It takes a nice polish, and and has its own color banding which enhances the overall beauty of the finished stone.
The sterling silver chain is 18 inches long. It was taken from another project, and has a nice patina. I can clean it if requested. The pinch bail was also taken from another project, but I took it off of that one and used it here. I purchased it new from a trusted supplier, and I am certain that it is sterling silver but I don't recall whether it is stamped with 925. Honestly, I had so much of a challenge photographing the opal that I forgot about the silver stampings.
